The Salkantay Trek connects Cusco to the Citadel of Machu Picchu and runs approximately 89 km/55 miles. Through high Andean peaks, cloud forest, and steamy jungle. The hike starts at the village of Mollepata, a few miles from Cusco.
The Salkantay Peak – Savage Mountain – is located within the Vilcabamba mountain range, to the northwest of Cusco. The Salkantay Trek is one of the highest and most spectacular mountains in the Andes (6,271m/20,574ft).

in the first day of the Salkantay trek We will pick you up from the city of Cusco in private mobility at 4.30 in the morning towards Soraypampa (3850 m / 12630 ft.). Passing through various towns such as Limatambo (2100 m / 6890 ft.), A very important access point to the city of Cusco during the empire of the Incas. After 3 hours in private mobility, we will have a comforting breakfast in Soraypampa. Starting point of the walk. Place where we will also meet our muleteer and staff who will assist us throughout the walk. From this point we will ascend to the impressive Humantay mountain (5902 m / 19360 ft.) To appreciate the beautiful lagoon and its glaciers.
With an approximate of 4 hours to then have a delicious lunch at 3800 m / 12465 ft. After a well-deserved rest, we will continue our walk for the next 2 hours to reach Soyrococha (4450 m / 14599 ft.), Where we will finally camp at the foot of the magnificent Salkantay Trek and his mountain.

We get up before the sun rises so we can have our breakfast and prepare for our walk. In approximately 1 hour we will be reaching the pass called Incachiriasca pass (4630 m / 15190 ft.), The highest of all our passes. Near the pass we will visit the beautiful Salkantay lagoon. Place where we will have a small ritual of gratitude to our Apus. From this point we will start our trek for the next 2 hours, arriving at Pampacahuana (4300 m / 14107 ft.), A beautiful viewpoint of the Andean mountains. After a well-deserved rest we will continue our walk for approximately 1.5 hours through the beautiful Andean landscapes until we reach Wayracmachay (4000m / 13123 ft.), Where we will have lunch.
After a delicious lunch prepared by our chef from the Andes, we will continue our walk for the next 3 hours through the high jungle of the Peruvian Andes where we can perceive the cold climate change from the Andes to the tropical jungle. Arriving at our destination Colpapampa (2800 m / 9186 ft.) Approximately 5 pm. Place where we will spend the night.

After a well-deserved rest we will have our breakfast at approximately 7.30 am prepared by the hotel’s talented chef. To then prepare to start the walk towards the hydroelectric plant with an approximate descent of 2 hours towards the slopes of the Llactapata mountain. Crossing the suspension bridge that connects Ahobamba (1850 m / 6069 ft.) With Llactapata, continuing for an hour to Hidroeléctrica (1800 m / 5905 ft.) One of the most important complexes in this area that has a waterfall with a fall of 300 meters which generates electricity for the entire Cusco region. Hidroeléctrica will be the place where we will once again have the privilege of tasting the latest delicacies from our chef. At the same time after our lunch we will say goodbye to our chef friend.
Now we will have two options to go to Aguas Calientes (2000 m / 6561 ft.). The first is if you are in good physical condition, you can continue the walk for the next 3 hours. The second option will be to take the train which has an additional cost of $ 39. The walk to Aguas Calientes will take you along the railway lines and the banks of the Urabamba river. We will walk through a temperate climate in the high jungle of Peru. This is the same path used by the American professor Hiram Bingham who discovered Machu Picchu after centuries of being abandoned by the Incas.
Arriving in Aguas Calientes at 4 pm. Beautiful town established from 1929. Dinner with the whole group will be organized by our guide. After coordination, the last details will be given for the great visit to the Inca citadel.
Important: During the rainy season the walk to Llactapata is not 100% guaranteed for safety reasons. When it rains frequently the path becomes very dangerous. Especially between January and February.

Today in the morning we will have our breakfast at the hotel. To then go to the bus station where we will board and ascend 30 minutes to the Inca citadel. At the entrance to Machu Picchu we will prepare our respective documents to make our entrance to Machu Picchu. “Magnificent” is the only word that will come to mind to describe and experience the energy and connection with nature, a scenario that you will see when you are in front of the ruins of Macchu Picchu.
Here you will have a guided tour of the Citadel. Main Square, Temple of the Three Windows as well as the famous Inti Watana or Solar Clock and the Circular Tower. After the 2 to 3 hour tour of the citadel, return to Aguas Calientes for lunch that will be organized by your guide which is not included in our tourist program. At the end of lunch our guide will say goodbye culminating with his services. Then they will have time to get to know a little more about Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) to finally go to the train station which will bring them back to Ollantaytambo after coordinating with your guide.
